My husband was hospitalized with a heart attack and diabetes. He was in the ICU for 7 days and inpatient for 4 more. I took off from my job of over 20 years to be there for him.

When I returned to work I had been docked vacation for all the days I was off. That meant I had only a few days of vacation for the entire rest of the year. I needed to be able to take him to doctor appointments and cardiac rehab and work full time while he was recovering.

It was so stressful. He almost died and while working I had to take care of him and all the insurance stuff he needed.
